We are once again performing a simple test to observe some potential performance differences in different array configurations. This time I will include the NVMe results as well. There are truly some interesting results here.

I recently just shucked the new revised version of the WD 12TB easystore and as far as I can tell it is a helium filled drive and runs at 5400 RPM, which will make a for a great addition to my Unraid NAS array. It also most likely has a 512MB cache but I have yet to verify this.

In this guide we will backing up Unraid to another Unraid server using rsync. While the steps to make this happen may seem daunting, they are actually very simple and mostly painless! Let’s bash our brains!

This is a very simple test where we are looking to see if using NVMe in parity will have any major improvement over hard drives in parity. Spoiler, between the two different NVMe drives I tested with, there was no major improvements in write speeds.

It turns out, in the greatest stroke of luck, I was able to install 128GB’s of RAM in my Ryzen Server. The strangest part about this is, Asus says that the Crosshair VI only supports up to 64GB’s of RAM, so what gives? Let’s take a look at how this all went down.

<Solved> The infamous, Streaming Error - “Could not access the specified channel or stream key. Please log out and back in to refresh your credentials. If the problem persists, there may be a problem connecting to the server.” At the time of writing there does not seem to be a fix for this error and the 10GbE Aquantia AQtion NIC.

The Dell T30 is pretty close to perfect for a home server using Unraid and OpenVPN, especially for $299.

Previously, we were using a peer-to-peer setup to achieve 10Gig transfers. Now, we have added a UniFi US-16-XG 10Gb Switch into the mix so that more clients can now take advantage of the extra available bandwidth. It’s been an entire year since we last tried to achieve 10Gig speeds and now we are finally here. Let’s take a dive into the entirety of the setup.

Picked this up from a local recycle center for $50 bucks. Not a bad deal at all considering it is a 1TB NVMe. Didn’t really know what to expect since benchmarks were a bit varied. So here is what I scored.

This all started because Final Cut Pro X does not (currently) support H.265 videos. So, thanks to Apple, we have now created a server that will automatically encode or transcode video using watch folders with Handbrake. The most important thing about this server, is having all work done automatically on it’s own. That way I can drop the videos into the watch folder and work on something else while Handbrake does all the work. Hmmmm, where to start…. prepare for word walls!

I really needed SQL to get anything useful out of this. Laziness got the best of me and nothing too cool was found. But come on, Toys R Us was running Windows Server 2008 R2….
